乾隆皇帝在1736年到1795年間統治著中國，他位居典禮活動構成的網絡中心。這些帝國禮儀旨在通過身體實踐，以有形的方式呈現支撐帝國社會的形而上學。本書是第一步完整論述乾隆皇帝和文人官員共同生産的"儀式化權力"的著作。作者打破傳統範疇，巧妙地結閤瞭人類學、後結構主義分析、錶演理論、曆史學和宗教學等領域的研究方法，通過一種批判性的文化史研究，闡釋瞭18世紀中國的權力生産和現代史學傢藉以研究中國的概念範疇。
著者簡介
司徒安，紐約大學人類學與宗教研究副教授。主要研究領域為人類學、中國文化史及宗教研究。拍攝紀錄片《水書》（2012）。閤編Body, Subject and Power in China, DV-Made China: Digital Subjects and Social Transformations after Independent Film。她的個人網頁為www.angelazito.com。
