More on the theme of anti-war than sci-fi. Time Travel/sf is rather convenient for carrying out the story and expressing a different philosophy to life/death. The film based on the novel is a successful adaption and loyal to the story.

The author shows the god gives him serenity to accept the things he cannot change. A time traveling book as early as 1969.
