Critic Richard Meltzer referred to Big Sur as Kerouac's 'masterpiece, and one of the great, great works of the English language.'

Read while traveling - another important book in my life. Sometimes you're aghast at how ridiculous these "emotional issues" (like self-loathe) could've been if you're not experiencing them simultaneously. Other times you wonder with amazement how they manage to live with them, and create, in such intense, enormous and continuing vitality.
