写于第一第二批判之间。虽然是提纲式的，却比第一批判易读很多。这可能是因为谈伦理时有可以随时援引经验例证的便利。全书有两个核心：积极的核心就是康德伦理学最有名的部分，也就是理性的存在者的行为合于道德律是为着道德律本身。它既是道德的立法者，同时又受道德律约束。消极（批判）的核心是指出自由意志是道德律的前设条件，是理性的理念，但我们却不可能理解自由意志何以可能。自由意志与自然的必然性构成了二律背反，要解决这一背反就必须认识到前者是对人作为思辨的存在而言，后者对人作为经验世界的现象而言（也就是说人作为现象是没有自由的）。
