著者简介

乔纳森•贝特，华威大学教授，主要研究方向为莎士比亚和文艺复兴时期的文学。主要著有《莎士比亚的天赋》（1997）以及一部关于莎士比亚的深度传记《时代的灵魂》（2008），后者从伊丽莎白女王时期的文化背景出发，分析了莎士比亚的思想历程。他创作的《约翰•克莱尔传》（2003）获得了英国历史最悠久的两大文学奖项：霍桑登奖和詹姆斯•泰特•布莱克奖。

没基本知识看起来真蛋疼。不知道在说啥。

既非编年体，亦非纪传体，与之前看的文学史读物在编排上有很大不同。从儿童文学谈起，依次探讨了文学的定义、起源、及发展阶段等；然后挑选重要人物分述了诗歌、戏剧、小说三部分；最后探讨了何谓ENGLISH literature。条理清晰，其中观点还是很具可读性的，人物作品都信手拈来；但并非文学史，主次太过分明，不少大佬也不过寥寥几笔带过，比较适合对英国文学有过一定了解后做深化阅读。
