Born and raised in Zambia, Dambisa Moyo has a Ph.D. in economics from Oxford University and a master's from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. A former consultant for the World Bank, Moyo worked at Goldman Sachs for eight years.
We all want to help. Over the past fifty years $1 trillion of aid has flowed from Western governments to Africa, with rock stars and actors campaigning for more. But this has not helped Africa. It has ruined it. Dambisa Moyo's excoriating and controversial book reveals why millions are actually poorer because of aid, unable to escape corruption and reduced, in the West's eyes, to a childlike state of beggary. "Dead Aid" shows us another way. Using hard evidence to illustrate her case, Moyo shows how, with access to capital and with the right policies, even the poorest nations can turn themselves around. First we must destroy the myth that aid works - and make charity history.

As Duflo says, science cannot answer this hyper-ideological question: does foreign aid really work, because we don’t know what would happen without aid. fun fact: Dr. Moyo once worked for Goldman & Sachs. Guess what bankers like the most?
评分有幾處論證方式清奇,對發展經濟學愈發沒有興趣。。。
评分3 reasons to read this book: 1- it tells you again great arguments can be simplistic, facts can be one-sided but nonetheless builds up a strong case; 2- it's a good (yet short) intro to the complex problem of development and aid; 3- it's written by a black woman, not by a white man.
评分Worthy read and inspiring author
评分咄咄逼人的Moyo,簡單的描述用詞總是太復雜
