Who says you can't run away from your problems? You are a failed novelist about to turn fifty. Somewhere in there: he will turn fifty. Through it all, there is his first love. And there is his last.

前四分之三都是上等佳作，尤其体现在行文上。近几年读虚构类的英文书很少读到这么流畅的。情绪感染力也一流，话题依也非常值得探讨：当一个人是一个少数群体的一员的时候，他是很难不说这个群体的好话的，否则他瞬间就会变成“坏人”。后四分之一则有些垮掉了，简直误以为在看一部旅游浪漫剧。
评分作者的文笔真的是我读过的有限的英语文学里最能引起共鸣之一了 故事情节相对轻松简单 整个阅读体验还是很愉悦的
评分Happy ending有点没意思，并且读到一半就被剧透了。文字很好笑，哭笑不得的那种????，又透着迷之忧郁。讲到三十年前老情人快要离世了那段有点触动的，但总体来说还是感觉一部young adult romance而已，可能五十岁男主人公的innocence刻画太深刻？？？

评分完全不解这部小说是凭借什么获了普利策奖的。除了零星乍现的几个高亮点，全书都很无聊，忍着读完。陈述者一直在说男主人公很天真，虽然已五十岁，但没有任何章节断落是描述他如何天真的。最不能容忍的，就是靠一个陈述句刻画人物，我要的是，描述。我要证据，我不要作者丢给我一个结论。男主人公，行将五十岁，一个没什么名气的三流作家，被相处了很多年的小男友抛弃，被人提到时的标签永远是某著名诗人曾经的恋人，在收到前男友的结婚请柬后，决定环游世界。法国，德国，意大利，摩洛哥，印度，日本。在旅程中，没什么事情发生，他的旅程实在是太枯燥乏味了。少有关于他情绪的描写，作者没有提供给读者可与之主人公发生情绪共鸣的通道。读着关于他的故事，却如同一个旁观者，看着与自己擦肩而过的路人，你对他一无所知。作者的讲述，太糟糕了。
