为奴十几年的Cora心中一直深深怨恨曾经抛弃自己的母亲。在偶然的机会里踏上了逃亡之旅。她披荆斩棘，曾经也有过短暂的“安稳”，但更多的是不停的逃离和躲避Ridgeway 的逮捕。紧张又惊心动魄的路上，她失去了同伴，帮助她的白人夫妇也惨遭毒手。最后的真相也许Cora永远不会知道。

政治意义大于文学价值，不过读过了也算是了解长期被美化的美国历史

这本书的意义显然是重大的，并不是为了政治正确才说的。然而可能是从文学角度，真的不是很impressed。这么好的故事线，却写的一点不吸引人。

一本会让人觉得英文特别美的小说。文字的流畅和简洁在最近几年读过的英美文学里数一数二。最喜欢它在历险故事里加入的一些对于人性和历史的思考。一些突然的转折让人意识到一个人在现实面前是多么的无力，但即使是这样也不能停下不顾一切向自由奔跑的脚步。
