Gilbert Strang was an undergraduate at MIT and a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. His Ph.D. was from UCLA and since then he has taught at MIT. He has been a Sloan Fellow and a Fairchild Scholar and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Professor of Mathematics at MIT, an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Strang has published eleven books:

He was the President of SIAM during 1999 and 2000, and Chair of the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics. He received the von Neumann Medal of the US Association for Computational Mechanics, and the Henrici Prize for applied analysis. The first Su Buchin Prize from the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Haimo Prize from the Mathematical Association of America, were awarded for his contributions to teaching around the world. 評分row picture 和 column picture 的角度看待矩陣很深刻
評分MIT著名綫代課程的教材,因為沒時間跟視頻就直接看教材瞭。這本書定位是入門,但我覺得學過綫代的再看一遍收獲也很大,書裏提供的一些理解角度是我從來沒有注意到過的例如Ax=b的四個重要嚮量空間,還有矩陣乘法的四種理解,看完真的覺得太amazing瞭。 不過也有缺點,這本書行文風格更像是一本課堂講義,看起來總覺得有點不順暢,需要自己重新組織好知識點。
評分課已經刷完瞭,書還沒有看完,希望至少看到第7章吧。總的來說真的很好,但有些我以為比較重要的話題過的有點快(比如Linear transformation)....刷到瞭第8章。需要迴顧定期迴顧一下重點知識:四個子空間,不同的factorization,determinant以及linear transformation(這個感覺貌似不是很紮實).有一個小震撼是原來Ax=b裏麵包含瞭那麼多層的含義!甚至很大一部分的factorization都是為瞭求最接近的解。
評分非常好的一本書,每章都配有非常多的習題。配閤MIT的18.06公開課,那是相當棒的。很感謝吉爾伯特老爺子。
