The book also addresses the idea of capitalism in the work of thinkers such as Marx, Weber, and Schumpeter, and chronicles how criticism of capitalism is as old as capitalism itself, fed by its persistent contradictions and recurrent emergencies.

Jürgen Kocka is a permanent fellow at Humboldt University of Berlin and former president of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. In 2011, he received the Holberg Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the scholarly world.

磕磕巴巴看完瞭，對於非學術界人士，這本書看起來還是很費力的。最大障礙是德式英語，全書到處是很長的句子，復雜的詞匯。在作者看來，“資本主義”這個概念是一個社會製度概念，不僅僅是經濟概念，資本主義的特點是對於利潤的追求，和資本本身的增殖特性。

作者本人是研究資本主義的權威學者，這本小書簡介瞭資本主義的崛起、發展與全球擴張，但實在太短瞭啊……
