著者簡介
Mary Beard is a professor of classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, and the classics editor of the TLS. She has world-wide academic acclaim. Her previous books include the bestselling, Wolfson Prize-winning Pompeii, The Roman Triumph, The Parthenon and Confronting the Classics. Her blog has been collected in the books It's a Don's Life [9781846682513] and All in a Don's Day [9781846685361]. She is in the 2014 top 10 Prospect list of the most influential thinkers in the world.

评分5-0.5 很勉強，4.5更閤適。名氣是這本書最大的拖纍，必然失望。可能是最近讀到的最不好看的史政類原文。 第一本mary beard，感覺文筆不夠好，努力往下夠以至上下夠不著。誠然好書，卻不知道寫給誰的，顯然不適閤羅馬史第一本，知道一點的又要嫌段子多。觀點是有的，而且很有啓發性，隻是密度低，改薄兩百頁可能會好看很多。 強烈推薦mary beard BBC羅馬前後兩套共七集，寓教於樂，精巧炫酷。 再次印證偏見，一般特能說的，寫的就不要太抱希望。
