Sewell對於文化的解釋並不是要在已經非常紛繁復雜的學術傳統裏再立一套關於行動、符號、意義和結構的解說，而是要為經驗研究者提供一個切實可行的觀察和寫作方案。我的路數和他非常相近。不是像裴宜理那樣武斷地給中國所謂的公民社會文化貼上一個“反洛剋主義”的標簽，而是要探尋新的概念如何形成，如何被人轉化和扭麯，如何在有意和無意的行動中構建一個新的體係。缺乏一貫性正是這個體係的活力所在。

是時候停止文化轉嚮瞭。在關注sociocultural的籠統問題上加入“曆史”的編排僅僅能把這個社會/文化概念變成一個可供分析的資源而非分析性的資源。諸位重視Bourdieu但仍不夠，Sewell&Biernacki從他來，前者在改進中對立，後者直接藉用其概念。其餘文章的好處是，能讓我們看到沒咋發過作品的Biernacki在那時候到底有何爭論，這對梳理一個廣義文化概念——從人類學那種發源到布大爺的對立——非常有用。（也能看齣那時候人們那麼重視宏大的統攝性理論哦...）
