我心愛的新文化史和曆史社會學終於匯閤瞭，文化的曆史社會學（cultural historical sociology）這一提法被正式提齣來啦。Lynn Hunt等大佬開始強調新文化史研究不應該以犧牲或拋棄社會史或曆史社會學的分析為代價。導論裏隻字未提“新文化史”，而籠統地稱之為“文化轉嚮”。後記特意讓Hayden White來撰寫，亦是有意之舉呢～

文化是什麼？社會是什麼？這些概念需要被重新整理，這個是”後現代理論“的口號。不過Sewell所提齣的將文化看做是既是係統其實跟哈貝馬斯的做法是類似的。在”文化“這個領域裏麵分齣層次來這些也是前人都已經做瞭的瞭。但是後現代理論還是有其市場，符號與話語，顛覆以及結構，這些遊戲的價值對於每個個體是重要的，但是對於一個社會學傢而言真的不大。後者的任務還得是解釋，解釋為什麼意義問題突然變成一個大傢都關心的熱點，同時也得麵對理論者如何在這樣的思想潮流中辨彆自己這一問題。我另外奇怪一點是universal從來沒存在過，當然不需要被解構嘛，，，，另外這學科分工是越來越細瞭，也真不是什麼好事。
