In Action in Perception, Noe argues that perception and perceptual consciousness depend on capacities for action and thought -- that perception is a kind of thoughtful activity. Touch, not vision, should be our model for perception. Perception is not a process in the brain, but a kind of skillful activity of the body as a whole. We enact our perceptual experience.To perceive, according to this enactive approach to perception, is not merely to have sensations; it is to have sensations that we understand. In Action in Perception, Noe investigates the forms this understanding can take. He begins by arguing, on both phenomenological and empirical grounds, that the content of perception is not like the content of a picture; the world is not given to consciousness all at once but is gained gradually by active inquiry and exploration. Noe then argues that perceptual experience acquires content thanks to our possession and exercise of practical bodily knowledge, and examines, among other topics, the problems posed by spatial content and the experience of color. He considers the perspectival aspect of the representational content of experience and assesses the place of thought and understanding in experience. Finally, he explores the implications of the enactive approach for our understanding of the neuroscience of perception.

原來知覺研究的externalist和internalist齣自這個領域！我喜歡這個理論發自內心！可是sensorimotor contingencies沒有考慮mental action讓心裏覺得不太爽。

本書想要達成的目標是，一方麵給經驗和意識一個自然主義的解釋，另一方麵又不至於為瞭解釋而違背經驗在現象層麵的特徵。為此，作者提齣瞭所謂“生成”進路：知覺與其說是將外在對象在心靈中巨細無遺地錶象齣來，不如說是一種探索的活動，其基礎在於對動覺偶然性的樣態（如此動，則感覺會如此變化，等等）的潛在知識。這樣一來，作者就用“鏈接”這種似真的在場取代瞭全適的在場，從而反駁瞭知覺的馬赫式觀點，強調瞭可能性在知覺中的建構性地位。然而，作者仍預設瞭知覺中某種框架的存在，隻是把其中的單元從細節的錶象換成瞭有關通達該細節之可能性的知識；換言之，他早已知道對象有這些細節，此後纔去追問它們以何種方式在場，因而不能徹底地揭示世界在知覺中逐漸展開的過程。知覺在此並不具有首要地位，它隻是對某個既成的形式框架的明知故問的探索。

也許是唯一一個能夠在包容度上與“打通中西馬”並肩的，同時按照學院風格寫就的書。

雖然長得像打手心思倒是很細膩，很多細節具有深刻反思性，並不做空洞地冒進，很好地結閤瞭歐陸和英美並能在行文上保持清晰和準確，對不同理論的逐條反駁氣勢可謂排山倒海。不足是過於按照自己的論證順序而忽視瞭成書後的分布順序導緻經常需要返迴去看，結構性不夠。幾個分問題（空間、色彩、視角、知覺概念）都很精彩。但不得不說noe的知覺觀有點過度實在論，因而他那裏的身體和生物學意義的身體幾乎沒有區彆故否定存在personal和subpersonal這一區分因而危險地忽視瞭人的第一視角鎖定問題。最末的神經科學問題還得重看，還不是很明白
