Benedict Anderson was Aaron L. Binenkorp Professor of International Studies Emeritus at Cornell University. He was editor of the journal Indonesia and author of Java in a Time of Revolution, The Spectre of Comparisons: Nationalism, Southeast Asia, and the World and Imagined Communities.

Anderson在寫作中都極力迴避中國瞭，為啥還有一群不長眼的高喊“不適閤中國”——帝國崩潰證明瞭多民族國傢與民族主義無法共存，然而皇漢活得好好的，對吧？

印象很深的一本書，研究生第一學期讀的。

雖考察民族主義的文化性質，但作為馬剋思主義者，安氏論述要旨深有馬主義根底：印刷資本主義，語言整閤同化，殖民地精英朝聖之旅形成民族情感，民族主義相互盜版，時間空間經由文藝作品和文字論述而壓縮、變成群體可理解可想象，均基於資本主義市場經濟發展和殖民體係擴展。這兩者決定印刷資本主義深度和殖民地與殖民中央關係、同一係列文化手段結閤，影響民族主義形態：舊皇朝地區齣現官式民族主義，皇朝官僚強力整閤語言民族。南美洲雖有共同語言，礙於殖民時技術條件難突破廣闊大陸地理區隔，缺乏母國整體想象，未形成統一南美民族主義。新興亞非拉地區藉助廣電技術，想象意識傳播更激烈。問題意識是為何亞洲共産政權會相互作戰—亞洲共産革命適逢各國民族主義文化建構條件和技術手段成熟的年代，東南亞各國共黨多少無意地繼承瞭殖民者的建構話語。
