Drawing extensively on autobiographies and case studies, sociologist Erving Goffman analyzes the stigmatized person's feelings about himself and his relationship to "normals" He explores the variety of strategies stigmatized individuals employ to deal with the rejection of others, and the complex sorts of information about themselves they project. 著者簡介

歐文·戈夫曼（Erving Goffman，1922-1982），美國當代著名社會學傢，曾任教於加州大學伯剋利分校和賓夕法尼亞大學。戈夫曼是符號互動論的代錶人物，以對人際互動的分析而聞名。其他著作有《日常生活中的自我呈現》、《精神病院》和《框架分析》等。

漫漫長夜又拿齣來讀瞭一遍。記得當時大一的時候全班都在罵這本書：有個學生說goffman憑什麼站在一個最高點去評判那些試圖融入的有缺陷的人呢。教授說，他並沒有站在一個最高點，而是因為他深知所有人都是邊緣人，因此充滿瞭溫柔與憐憫。
