评分作者從不同的小方嚮(比如在非洲的傳教與探險，馬剋沁機槍發明對帝國擴張的巨大影響，對印度的殖民與管理等)以小見大，迴顧瞭日不落帝國從興起到衰落的四百年曆程，以及探討瞭其對當今霸權國傢的藉鑒與啓示。英國國的殖民史在作者優美文筆下主觀上多瞭些人情味和懷舊感(當然作者總體立場還是比較客觀的)，閱讀體驗很不錯。
评分作為入門讀物還是很好，但如果隻聽Ferguson一傢之言還是有問題的。
