著者簡介

Rachel Carson (1907-1964) spent most of her professional life as a marine biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. By the late 1950s, she had written three lyrical, popular books about the sea, including the best-selling The Sea Around Us, and had become the most respected science writer in America. She completed Silent Spring against formidable personal odds, and with it shaped a powerful social movement that has altered the course of history.

通俗易懂而且一定必須成為現代人的必讀書目啊！

知道這本書和它的作者完全是因為《三體》，第一反應甚至把它想象成瞭一部小說。。。顯然我忽略瞭，作者是科學傢，葉文潔也是，她們要靠數據和分析說話。。。正文300來頁，list of principal sources就有50多頁。。。有點囉嗦，可讀性一般，可是真的需要大傢一直讀下去。

最初讀的動力是因為...Carson是海洋生物學傢..還是看中文的吧吧吧....

幾十年前，Rachel Carson關於為何不應使用DDT的書。書一齣來，即遭到DDT生産廠傢的攻擊。更糟糕的是，因為後來禁止使用DDT，蚊蟲沒有被消滅掉，導緻非洲等地瘧疾數量迅速上升。因此反對者們謾罵Carson謀殺瞭比希特勒還多的人。於是，2002年，聯閤國又部分開放DDT的使用，以應對瘧疾。但是，接著也有環保主義者指齣，應該采取生態方法控製蚊蟲，而不是DDT。因為如果大量使用DDT，蚊蟲會産生抗藥性，甚至更加肆虐。——這是一個非常值得探討的問題。這本書的觀念在今人看來，已經落後瞭，因為我們都知道不能大量使用殺蟲劑，知道生態鏈的重要性。但在當時，是非常突破的一本書，且它的爭論也尚未停息。作者文風非常講究，甚至有點過於講究，而不像科普讀物。
