作者简介
Rachel Carson (1907-1964) spent most of her professional life as a marine biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. By the late 1950s, she had written three lyrical, popular books about the sea, including the best-selling The Sea Around Us, and had become the most respected science writer in America. She completed Silent Spring against formidable personal odds, and with it shaped a powerful social movement that has altered the course of history.

评分知道这本书和它的作者完全是因为《三体》，第一反应甚至把它想象成了一部小说。。。显然我忽略了，作者是科学家，叶文洁也是，她们要靠数据和分析说话。。。正文300来页，list of principal sources就有50多页。。。有点啰嗦，可读性一般，可是真的需要大家一直读下去。

评分这本书援引了大量的科学原理和数据，但可以感受到作者字里行间表达的悲痛、讽刺和希望。可以想见当时写下并发表这本书需要多大的勇气、决心和智慧。所幸words can make a difference。“Our aim should be to guide natural processes as cautiously as possible in the desired direction rather than to use brute force... Life is a miracle beyond our comprehension, and we should reverence it even where we have to struggle against it.”
评分环境保护、食品安全这种看似烂大街的题材，却深入浅出，交织穿插各方利益博弈角逐，游刃有余，是科学人文写作范本。人类的短视打破了生态链，自以为消灭了害虫，其实毁掉了人和近乎无限繁殖的昆虫之间的自然屏障。50年前的写作深度和立意比国内“惊！苹果竟然不能吃！”不知道高到哪里去了。
