Don't like the story but respect the meaning Charles attached to life, the claim he acknowledged to society and the claim of the individual.

评分讀過一本毛姆的短篇小說集，一個非常擅長說故事的作傢。但是這本長篇前半部分還是讀的非常艱難（一半因為幾百年沒讀英文書瞭，另一邊因為都是在飛行時間看的，非常容易睡著）。但是Strickland從法國到大溪地之後確實不忍心放下來，藉伍爾芙說的，確實像在自己平庸的生活中迎麵撞上瞭一座巨大的冰山。毛姆的確聰明、幽默又剋製，贊美毛姆。
