看過中文，再看英文，竟然還是斷斷續續看瞭三個月

讀過一本毛姆的短篇小說集，一個非常擅長說故事的作傢。但是這本長篇前半部分還是讀的非常艱難（一半因為幾百年沒讀英文書瞭，另一邊因為都是在飛行時間看的，非常容易睡著）。但是Strickland從法國到大溪地之後確實不忍心放下來，藉伍爾芙說的，確實像在自己平庸的生活中迎麵撞上瞭一座巨大的冰山。毛姆的確聰明、幽默又剋製，贊美毛姆。

終於讀完瞭英文版

充斥其中misogyny不能否定這是部有技巧的好小說。讀者們目眩神迷注視著怪異的"月亮"主角肆意人生，自然的忽略瞭幾個麵目被扭麯的"六便士"女人以及毛姆可鄙可憐的自我揭露。簡單來說，同性戀在某些國傢請彆結婚，不然會變態的。

Strickland如果不是靠Blanche的護理早就病死瞭，不是靠Ata養也不會在最後幾年過得那麼愜意繼而達成藝術理想瞭。很震撼於這種為藝術獻身和拉他人犧牲的人性。
