冰冷是这部作品的主题，男主是一个守规矩但无法融入社会的人，一个万物的旁观者，不会在妈妈的葬礼上哭泣，因为他知道这个结局是好的。他不拒绝女友的结婚请求，因为那无所谓，他只会默默地看着。直到荒唐的枪杀发生了，男主依然是旁观者，在法庭无论辩论多么激烈，他也只是看客。整个故事显得那么冰冷，荒唐，无序。

读英文版的和中文版的还是感觉还是不一样。英文更加粗粝荒诞。从第一段第一句就显示出来。那句“今天，妈妈死了，或许是昨天”，用中文说出来，不如英文那么冷漠无心。其余也是。

因为读过中译本 匆匆扫过英译本 脑海中依旧能浮现巨大甲虫的样子

盛夏时节宜读此书。
