巴黎第五大學的法國文學教授兼心理分析學者。曾齣版過許多書籍，《福爾摩斯錯瞭！》（Sherlock Holmes Was Wrong: Reopening the Case of the Hound of the Baskervilles）、《誰殺瞭艾剋洛德？》（Who Killed Roger Ackroyd?: The Mystery Behind the Agatha Christie Mystery）。他也擔任過電視評論節目主持人。

更恰當的名字應該是《文學批評傢的自我修養》，人文社科還是老老實實看書吧。畢竟，當史學理論發展齣“曆史書寫就是文學虛構”的觀點時，文學理論早就又走到不知道哪裏去瞭。

what is essential, is not to lose perspective. 這本書真是書不如其名，因為它並不是要教你how to talk about books you haven't read，而是重新審視什麼是reading, 什麼是non-reading. 以及，一個人的inner library, 和社會的collective library, virtual library之間是如何互動的。我們閱讀的時候並不是為瞭作為客體的文本，而是通過閱讀發現自己。我覺得這本書對於學文學的學生來說更有意義，因為它最終的落腳點在於creativity. He made a good point by writing this book.

簡述：老老實實讀書是王道，為瞭應付課程多讀名傢互評是條路。PS：喜歡他對於書的content和 location的區分。如果沒辦法把握content，至少瞭解location。
