《大地》是赛珍珠的代表作。小说叙述的是旧中国的农民王龙从一无所有而成的为一个富户的故事。王龙发迹后，娶了两个姨太太，他的“好”妻子帮他购置并保住地产，他的“坏”妻子则帮他挥霍并卖掉田地。王龙在一场动乱中浑水摸鱼发了财，买了许多土地，并住进了大户财的老宅……他老了，惟一的心愿就是守住家业。他告诫儿子们千万不能卖地，土地就是真正的命根子。

是有点感人，但由于不是中国人写的，还是能感觉到和中国人感情上的隔阂。
评分写得相当好，朴实又动人。看完之后深受感动，我默默地去做针线活了。
评分仅需上溯最多五代，鲜有中国人与农民相距遥远。农民对土地的情怀，这几代人已经无法理解。我们更擅长谈生活的流变、爱的虚妄。
评分够不上诺奖平均水准，但对中国读者有理解“相互解读”那层意义
评分不管有多深的中国背景，外国人来写中国总觉得隔着一层，故事也太直接了。可能是翻译的问题，对话太过苍白。现在来看看那时的土地与农民，更会觉得“四个现代化”的悲哀。
