After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

评分是先听了Desplat的OST，才找到这本书。对于战争创伤的背景寥寥几笔，点到为止。固然是俗套的剧情，人性，爱，救赎，牺牲，对于这些过于饱满的善，用了几乎滥情的描写，Isabel泛滥的母爱和隐瞒孩子身世的两面性貌似是书中人物稀有的厚度。孤独的守岛人，大海上的灯塔，这种频频使用的“人设”让优美的文笔显得刻意和做作。韩剧一般的剧情反转，Tom为爱情而背锅，生母和养母之争，让我无法从这本书中找到感动。
