保罗•哈丁，美国作家、音乐家。他少年时代经常“在丛林中游荡”，对大自然有着深切的爱和体悟。后参与创建“Cold Water Flat”乐队，担任鼓手，曾在美国和欧洲巡回演出。他从小酷爱阅读。当读到卡洛斯•富恩特斯的《我们的土地》时，他突然感到“这才是我要做的事”，从此萌发文学创作之念。他的首部小说《修补匠》原本默默无闻，却凭借其厚积薄发的文学内涵获得2010年普利策小说奖。

Paul Harding, Cold Water Flat乐队的前任鼓手，Tinkers是他的处女作，2010年获得普利策奖。父与子的故事，敏感却身患癫痫的父亲与同样敏感的儿子的故事，a sad story about how we cope the lost of lights in life and how we strive to carry on.

薄薄的一本却用时两个星期才读完。故事本身并不出挑，跳跃式地讲述了三代人的父子关系，情节更谈不上出挑。关键在于作者的叙事风格太有特点了，语言风格极为poetic，充斥了大量对场景、意象的描写。也许因为自己是在嘈杂的地铁上断断续续读的（而tinker很显然是需要耐心的作品），很多段落，尤其是大段大段如同梦呓般的描写让我有点不耐烦，甚至有些厌恶。但不可否认有些地方非常优美，特别是父亲Howard的部分格外动人，或许是因为他的想法自己感同身受吧

看这本书，就像在欣赏一幅又一幅黑白老照片，每一个细节都被凝固在时间里，通通透透，纤毫毕现。这本书又像一部黑白纪录片，用细腻到令人发指的笔触刻画庸常生活每一个琐碎的细部。所有你愿意看到的，不愿意看到的都在此书毫无保留地一一呈现。作者不遗余...

人之将死，思想很复杂怪诞，一些看似毫无关联的东西一起涌上心头。想家庭，思亲人。三代人的生活。老实说如果看电子版我早早的就会放弃这本书。看着挺累的，难理解，可能要等静下来的时候再读。亦或是普利策小说奖也不过如此，还是外国的文化不能理解。有待再次阅读后的感悟。
