罗蒂在其实用主义哲学方面的代表性著作。国内其它可见的他的书有不少属于政治哲学。而这本是纯哲学的。讨论分析哲学方法论、及其与欧陆哲学的关系等。
評分记得1990年前后在学校图书馆里借这本书来看，是因为先看了涂纪亮《分析哲学及其在美国的发展》，里面最后介绍的人物就是罗蒂。但是那时看这本书根本看不懂的，只是享受于全神贯注绞尽脑汁的硬啃过程。还回去之后过了些天觉得不过瘾，又借出来一次。算是那时我比较钟爱的一本书...

用元哲學的方法來消解而非解決哲學問題，很難說本書能達到kripke大師NN的影響力，但也不至於消失在曆史中，畢竟對概念分析方法的悲觀主義某種程度上也是一股大流，這後一點不僅僅是對於大陸或文學係的朋友們來說。
