She remembers other things, too: the wild years spent on the river; the strange, lonely boy who came to stay on the boat one winter; and the creature in the water – a canal thief? – swimming upstream, getting ever closer. In the end there will be nothing for Gretel to do but go back.

Daisy Johnson’s debut novel turns classical myth on its head and takes readers to a modern-day England unfamiliar to most. As daring as it is moving, Everything Under is a story of family and identity, of fate, language, love and belonging that leaves you unsettled and unstrung.

著者简介

Daisy Johnson was born in 1990. Her debut short story collection, Fen, was published in 2016. She is the winner of the Harper's Bazaar Short Story Prize, the A.M. Heath Prize and the Edge Hill Short Story Prize. She currently lives in Oxford by the river.

吊诡又锋利的文字！串起故事的希腊神话太赞了，猜到它的时候忍不住从沙发上跳起来

3.5星，90年生的女作家第一本长篇小说。开头非常惊艳。读完后发现是一个transgender版的俄狄浦斯悲剧。杀父娶母的故事设定在当代英国，而且人物角色是一个性别流动的设定，所以被称为女权版本。吊诡的叙事，有点魔幻现实的故事，阴郁的故事，优美的语言，这些让这本小说非常值得一读，即使有瑕疵还是期待读她的新作！

作者的天赋让人嫉妒得想要把墙挠穿，民间故事、神话悲剧、繁复的象征以诡异且带着不安之美的书写交织在一起。但作为début小说，作者想要在有限的体量里实现太多 - 母女关系、记忆、恐惧、语言的重塑 - 一度使叙事失控，角色笼罩在一种“manufactured otherness”之下

喜欢她选的题材，故事情节毁了题材。人物饱满度不够，情节又设计得太水。前一页说你去游泳看看会不会想起什么，下一秒小孩掉池子里了你得救她，要不要这么刻意。个人感觉作家也有点粉弗洛伊德 = =。我刚开始看到潜抑和阉割恐惧的时候我以为是我最近读课本脑子读出翔了，最后看到俄狄浦斯情结的时候只有郁闷。亲，你这是现代故事，别硬要往希腊神话上凑，那个母亲就是个现代人长了个希腊脑袋。挺失望的一本书
