A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality--the black Chinese restaurant.
Born in the "agrarian ghetto" of Dickens--on the southern outskirts of Los Angeles--the narrator of The Sellout resigns himself to the fate of lower-middle-class Californians: "I'd die in the same bedroom I'd grown up in, looking up at the cracks in the stucco ceiling that've been there since '68 quake." Raised by a single father, a controversial sociologist, he spent his childhood as the subject in racially charged psychological studies. He is led to believe that his father's pioneering work will result in a memoir that will solve his family's financial woes, but when his father is killed in a police shoot-out, he realizes there never was a memoir. All that's left is the bill for a drive-thru funeral.
Fueled by this deceit and the general disrepair of his hometown, the narrator sets out to right another wrong: Dickens has literally been removed from the map to save California from further embarrassment. Enlisting the help of the town's most famous resident--the last surviving Little Rascal, Hominy Jenkins--he initiates the most outrageous action conceivable: reinstating slavery and segregating the local high school, which lands him in the Supreme Court.

諷刺的真的用力過猛但是讀起來也是爽快，作者每隔幾句抖一個包袱真的不纍嗎？那天聽同事評價覺得十分中肯，正因為每一句話都帶著嘲諷的調調，一本書讀下來覺得與主人公的隔閡橫跨瞭一個大峽榖吧，並沒有被故事所觸動
评分媽呀讀的真纍，好多細節沒懂，也不想去弄懂瞭，開始都得很有興趣，然後越讀越纍，也沒瞭娛樂性瞭，就是諷刺美國黑人不公的處境的，文化不熟悉，感情不共鳴，但又莫名覺得寫得不錯
评分5%黑色幽默吧，對美國的文化瞭解不夠，少瞭共同記憶，很難讀 30% 之前體力不濟，現在慢慢讀順瞭 80% 每天一章稀裏嘩啦的笑一笑，喜歡人物及誇張又真實的刻畫，沒有答案不給vision 85% 看這書老會想起一網絡語，圈子不同不必強融????100% 爭吵確實無益，但生活也確實虛無但趣味橫生
评分即便英語詞匯量儲備豐富，若不是在美國的長期居住者，想要閱讀完並享受這本書非常睏難。
评分雖然有很多因為背景知識空白和單詞量的蒼白沒太明白 也不影響我覺得這是本好書。種族話題並不鮮見 但第一次讀到用反嚮歧視的角度來展開很尖銳但卻幽默 非常幽默 用看似不可能的情節來揭示種族歧視的消失隻是幻想（黑人發起隔離運動 黑人因為蓄奴被送上最高法院）。栩栩如生的每個人 不斷有發人深省的詰問。有中文版我一定再讀一遍。
