头两章不错，后面就以欧美史为主了，其他洲没多少存在感。做少儿读物还行，我抱着学历史常识学词汇的目的来的，这个就有点太浅了

听了多年的audio books ,终于开始挑战原版 non-fiction 类了，可能是早年被各类史的洗礼，相对熟悉那些人物，年代，和重大事件。也可能就是听力有进步。也可能这是写给儿童看的，用词浅显易懂。这位德系作者，真是难得真心懂得欣赏东方文明之美的西方人，温厚悲悯。如果，白人普遍都能有这么开明包容的态度，在国外生活的舒适度会提升很多吧。可惜，ignorance & prejudice才是硬通货。 "在洋枪大炮下，这片古老文明和平之地上的人民，屈服于big nose foreign devils" Ernst Gombrich 恩斯特·贡布里希 (多念几遍，好好记住他的名字…)

太适合做孩子的睡前读物历史趣味化的面目

中学历史教科书难度的历史畅销书和长销书，有多长呢，第一版其实是在二战前写完的。作者的名气来自另外一本书，《艺术的故事》，那是一本定价近300元豆瓣评分9.6的巨著。我80年代读到的版本还是黑白的，作者的名字译作冈布里奇。根据坊间传说，如果没有这本书的成功，也不会有人请他完成《艺术的故事》。国内最新的版本是理想国出的，名字是《世界小史》，好像是从德文版直接译过来的。耶鲁出版社出的英文版是由他的助手翻译的。至于要不要读，则见仁见智，我挺喜欢眼下风头颇劲的翻译家陆大鹏的答案，“我读到这本书的时候已经不年轻了，所以不觉得怎么样好。。。sorry” 至于我自己的答案：我读到这本书的时候已经不年轻了，真希望能早一些碰到它。。。

好看。内容当然不是很深刻很全面，但作者的叙述方式和对待历史的态度，实在很值得看。有几处写communism的地方，好奇中文本怎么处理的。
