作者简介
卡尔·休斯克（Carl E. Schorske），生于纽约市，先后就读于哥伦比亚学院和哈佛大学。他现为代顿—斯托克顿历史学教授，并一直担任普林斯顿大学欧洲文化研究中心主任。休斯克还曾在卫斯理大学和加州大学伯克利校区担任教职。他还是美国国家艺术与科学院的成员，其先前著作包括：《德国的社会民主党，1905-1917》（German Social Democracy, 1910-1917），以及《德意志的问题》（The Problem of Germany）。

欧洲史散文，作为读书会文本读起来还是蛮失望的。不过，作者的语言描写，特别是评述这些文人的遣词造句，可以作为我写作的参照(捂脸
评分历史书写的经纬线（共时性与历时性）：处理混淆多元化现实与同质化定义的问题。历史和地理都不熟，读起来费劲。看得最入迷的是以花园为线索的那几章。
