I’m thrilled when reading this book, totally devoting to the life of theUtopians, and thinking how wonderful it would be if such civilization exists.

It is the work of a scholarly Englishman who enjoys high social status attacks the chief social evils on the policy of Henry VIII. I figure that ‘Utopia’ is not a practical but an ideological scheme. More aims at creating a political metaphor which using the ideas in Graeco-Roman classics(especially Plato’s the Republic) as a critical weapon.

The value of this book is to motivate people to find problems in reality. Question book. More身心所在不夠自由，書中尤其體現在宗教部分，professor卻強行要說並沒有monotheism，個人認為More仍然擺脫不掉教會影響而並沒有寫得過於齣格。畢竟是十五六世紀的東西，生活水平達不到一定層次社會思想進程也不可能達到多麼高的層次，書的精髓在我看來是促使人們不斷對utopia這個虛構世界進行質疑而反思。

這本書的作為空想社會主義的開端，其社會影響遠遠超過文本本身的思想價值。姑且不論烏托邦是否可以存在，人性是否剋服可以貪欲，是否人類可以容忍單一的價值觀；單單與柏拉圖的理想國相比還是有非常大的差距。在理想國裏，蘇格拉底不斷引導幾個思辨者得齣有意義的結果，抽絲剝繭般層層深入；而烏托邦第一部分的對話體更富說教色彩，在第二部分用敘述體描述烏托邦，不僅是空中樓閣，而且為天方夜譚。本書唯一亮點就是第一部分對英國死刑量刑的批判與思辨。
