It is the work of a scholarly Englishman who enjoys high social status attacks the chief social evils on the policy of Henry VIII. I figure that ‘Utopia’ is not a practical but an ideological scheme. More aims at creating a political metaphor which using the ideas in Graeco-Roman classics(especially Plato’s the Republic) as a critical weapon.

这本书的作为空想社会主义的开端，其社会影响远远超过文本本身的思想价值。姑且不论乌托邦是否可以存在，人性是否克服可以贪欲，是否人类可以容忍单一的价值观；单单与柏拉图的理想国相比还是有非常大的差距。在理想国里，苏格拉底不断引导几个思辨者得出有意义的结果，抽丝剥茧般层层深入；而乌托邦第一部分的对话体更富说教色彩，在第二部分用叙述体描述乌托邦，不仅是空中楼阁，而且为天方夜谭。本书唯一亮点就是第一部分对英国死刑量刑的批判与思辨。

The value of this book is to motivate people to find problems in reality. Question book. More身心所在不够自由，书中尤其体现在宗教部分，professor却强行要说并没有monotheism，个人认为More仍然摆脱不掉教会影响而并没有写得过于出格。毕竟是十五六世纪的东西，生活水平达不到一定层次社会思想进程也不可能达到多么高的层次，书的精髓在我看来是促使人们不断对utopia这个虚构世界进行质疑而反思。
