我蹩脚的英文读诗歌时还是会词不达意理解的面目全非，迫不得已借了翻译来读，所幸那本翻译实在是太好，于是不仅仅感到了惠特曼的强力，更看到了他在万千世界中选取的如草叶一般的对象，看到了他内心细微的分裂，看到了他所呼吁的平等自由的哲理，幻想和真实的经验的交错。虽然不能同意他，但是诗歌的魔力就在于这表达间给人的重创，多少次读他的排比读到泣不成声，多少次被他简短的all my lovers and sisters的表白而压倒，多少次被插在句子间一个简短的感叹词"O"逼得不得不放下书消化这天赋的语感，多少次看着他文本间视角自然地转化。对于非英语母语的人来说，你一定要能突破语言的障碍，在不断熟悉其意义的过程后流畅的感受到他的力量，然后惠特曼会成为他本来的样子，一个最伟大的诗人，打开了你从不曾感受到的世界。
