贝尔•胡克斯（bell hooks），美国女权主义理论家、文化批评家、教育家、作家、诗人。美国不可缺少的、独立的思想者之一，也是今日美国最重要的黑人公共知识分子之一。曾任教于耶鲁大学、纽约州立大学等，目前任教于她的家乡肯塔基州的博睿雅学院。迄今为止已经出版了《女权主义理论：从边缘到中心》《我不是一个女人吗：黑人女性与女权主义》等近三十本著作。

很有启发的一本入门书，粗浅地讲解了围绕女权的十几个话题，从来由、发展、历史，到不足、误解和未来的方向。很适合对女权很好奇却又缺乏系统知识的人（比如我）看。虽然Bell Hooks主要讨论的还是西方的女权主义，像她自己说的，不能在非西方国家克隆似地推广不符合当地情况的解决办法，但我还是觉得有很大部分的一致性，毕竟patriarchy导致的问题都差不多。不足之处是引用了很多她自己以前写的东西，并且举例的来源不够多，但是瑕不掩瑜，还是很喜欢。
