听老外说的一本关于中国的书，其实也就是反映落后一面的中国的故事，老外喜欢看，可是却容易误导他们。在西方人的眼里美国工厂这样的故事能够反映出中国人的厉害的一面的故事或文章太少了。
评分接触麦格兰岛之后选的第一本英文书。开头部分印象非常深刻，我都没有看过把晚晴农村生活里关于家庭日常所体现的等级关系写的如此真实的中文
评分拜读完毕。首个美国女性诺贝尔的作品（1938年）。在当时是美国深入认知中国这个遥远国家的重要桥梁。行文和人物塑造倒也不出彩，获奖更多可能是当时的社会影响力，以及整体一种暗涌的感觉，特别是读到最后时，那种宿命与轮回的体验无法用语言描述。可能这就是文学于一般小说的区别之处。
评分just heart-striking and inspirational! the struggling of farmers in 1930s China and how the poor family survived the big famine by leaving behind their land with great pain, returned to their LAND later. what's sparkling in this literature is, no matter how hard environment might be, human lives on, and with nature being benign, flourishes again.
