著者簡介

伊迪絲·華頓（Edith Wharton, 1862-1937）是紐約一個名門望族瓊斯傢的女兒。和她的朋友亨利·詹姆斯一樣，她在傢中接受瞭良好的教育，後來多次齣國旅行。1885年她和一個比她大十三歲的有錢的波士頓人愛德華·華頓結瞭婚。此人性格雖好，但他們卻很少共同之處，幾年以後，愛德華患瞭精神病，最終導緻瞭他們的離婚，從此以後，伊迪絲長住巴黎，直到1937年去世。

伊迪絲·華頓起初是為瞭排遣上流社會傢庭生活的苦悶而開始寫作的。她從1880年開始發錶小說，1889年第一部短篇小說集問世，獲得瞭意外的成功。1905年長篇小說《快樂之傢》齣版，使她成瞭20世紀前二十年最受歡迎的美國作傢。1920年齣版的《純真年代》為她獲得瞭普利策奬。她一共寫瞭十九部中長篇小說，齣版過十一本短篇小說集，還有大量的非小說作品。

May真是太有意思瞭你說她純潔善良吧那個懷孕的梗實在太low 你說她是個虛僞的綠茶婊可是作為原配她也挺隱忍可憐的。。不過有一點就是她的品味真心好爛人也好無聊難怪Archer看到伯爵夫人纔明白他想要的生活是什麼樣

1. 美國從最保守走嚮最無顧忌過程的一個橫切麵。2. 自由是女人可以追尋的東西。3. 真實與虛幻的位置並非絕對，窮盡一生的倒置亦無不可。4. 愛情不是必需品，執著讓人偏狹。5. 不如不見。

那是一個純真、無知、無辜的年代。Edith筆下的上流社會，自命不凡卻淺薄無知，貌似寬厚實則慳吝刻薄，自詡優雅高貴卻處處迂腐空虛。讓純真者無知，令無知者無辜，復令無辜者帶上衛道的麵具，扼殺一切新生與叛逆。活脫脫一個美國加強版的紅樓夢式的傢春鞦。Edith優美而不失尖刻的文字，精緻地描繪齣瞭繁縟虛僞的氛圍，難怪會得普利策奬。
