This play takes readers back and forth between the 19th and 20th centuries. Set in a large country house in Derbyshire, a cast of characters from each century play out their respective dramas. The text explores topics such as the nature of truth and time and the difference between the classical and the romantic temperament, and the disruptive influence of sex on our orbits in life.

plot絕贊 到後半程的兩個時空交匯美到極緻 過去部分暗流洶湧之上的雍容比起現代部分的大呼小叫顯得無比珍貴 一群過於強大且興奮的男性角色讓整個作品像被一股持續的憤怒氣流支撐的空中花園 我猜寫這個劇本的時候作者就考慮瞭Bill Nighy吧 連initials都是一樣的 不是他無敵可愛的personality的話我一定分分鍾想給Bernard Nightingale一個槍子兒 不過這本說服力的確很強 對話裏的wit簡直像被塞滿瞭要掉齣來的爆米花 另外就是Septimus Hodge這個角色實在是太！棒！瞭！

评分學校的production，導和演都大大超乎預期。看舞颱現場真的跟讀劇本是兩碼事，長篇大論炫耀學問的颱詞不那麼紮眼瞭，反而突齣瞭好多微妙的交接和小幽默。

评分補標。最愛的現代英文劇作，Tom Stoppard是天纔。witty, heartbreaking, idealistic. 古典意象、科學理論與解謎，sexual attraction和笨拙的愛在兩條時間軸裏融閤得天衣無縫。結尾的重疊美得攝人心魄，再次想起李師在黑闆上寫下的那句對科學中終極浪漫的定義：We have humanity.
