The author considers the drama "a plea to all sides to dispel cultural and sexual misperception", but in fact, instead of facilitating the elimination of prejudice, it apparently accomplishes the opposite to some extent for Chinese in it are still stereotyped. There's no doubt though it's a fine work to study the writing of Chinese Americans.

近来读过最好的书之一，寻常的对话字字句句背后都可以找到深层含义，且与人物性格毫无冲突感。"I have played out the events of my life night after night, always searching for a new ending to my story"，永远不可能有别的结局，因为结局早就被写定，一场幻想终归留不住，唯有以死相抵。

it's a rich and "meaty" novel that touches upon many many grand issues, such as narratives, orientalism, intertextuality, sexuality and politics..But i don't really enjoy the language Hwang has delivered, as a play..still recommend it b/c of the shrewd narratives.
