比起Jude，Sue更像是小說的主角。這小說或許也可以叫做“女人是如何煉成的”。讀時感覺小說情節和個人見聞經曆一次次吻閤，人物就好像是舊識——這可是一百年前的小說！前半本比後半本好看。
评分哈代的許多作品讀瞭一些之後就會發現作者自身特色的文風瞭。這本小說還是很喜歡，遺憾沒能看完。
评分淑的信仰一直是缺失的，就像個局外人一樣，一切愛情、友情、信仰對她來說都是無所謂的、善變的、次要的。思想情感也從來不受她的控製，所以對愛情仿佛揮之即來、呼之即去，把裘德和Phillotson玩弄於鼓掌之間，可是淑給很多讀者卻製造瞭一種無辜的印象。 非常討厭哈代筆下的女性。從《遠離塵囂》的Bathsheba，到淑，再到《還鄉》裏的尤斯塔西婭。
