评分淑的信仰一直是缺失的，就像个局外人一样，一切爱情、友情、信仰对她来说都是无所谓的、善变的、次要的。思想情感也从来不受她的控制，所以对爱情仿佛挥之即来、呼之即去，把裘德和Phillotson玩弄于鼓掌之间，可是淑给很多读者却制造了一种无辜的印象。 非常讨厌哈代笔下的女性。从《远离尘嚣》的Bathsheba，到淑，再到《还乡》里的尤斯塔西娅。
