具体描述

Tyler Burge presents a substantial, original study of what it is for individuals to represent the physical world with the most primitive sort of objectivity. By reflecting on the science of perception and related psychological and biological sciences, he gives an account of constitutive conditions for perceiving the physical world, and thus aims to locate origins of representational mind. Origins of Objectivity illuminates several long-standing, central issues in philosophy, and provides a wide-ranging account of relations between human and animal psychologies.

This book should be read in conjunction with "The foundation of mind" to get a better grasp of Burge's system. Specifically, this book deals with representation, representational content, and related concepts in the study of vision and perception in psychology.

The "science" part is fine, The philosophical lessons not convincing enough. Points are made repetitively, while some key issues are left under-explicated, such as how the veridicality condition contribute to the scientific explanation exactly, or how the distinction between registration and constancy-based representation matters for the science
