杰克·特纳(Jack Turner)1968年生于澳大利亚墨尔本，在墨尔本大学荻古典文学艺术专业学士学位。后获罗兹奖学金在牛津大学学习，并以麦克阿瑟基金会初级研究员身份在那里从事研究，获牛津大学国际关系学博士学位。现与妻子海伦娜及儿子旅居瑞士。《香料传奇》是他的第一本著作。

作者的脉络让人钦佩，也让读者感受到了西方世界对香料的执著，但是好像与国人无关，作为西方人眼中的东方，好像更多的是印度，而不是中国，权且一看，当作消遣罢了
