这部novella就像Sally的<Conversations with Friends>的雏形：麻烦的父亲、二十岁的女主角和迷人的帅大叔。那些最日常的事物在Sally笔下有种让人惊叹的魔力，对每件事不同的心理活动依然让人感同身受。不，与其说感同身受，不如说我们就是书中的主角。Sally小说的好就在于，她极其强调“体验”本身，一切的经验和教训都是在一次次真切的体验中习得。甚至这些已习得的在下一场新体验中毫无用武之处。主角们总是在经历过种种重大事件后做出可能让人费解的行为——而这实际上是她们最终认识并接纳了自己内心的欲望。强调“体验”这恰恰非常摩登，不是吗？
