It was engaging enough. The ending is weak - just a bit too cute for my liking. Some savage turns of phrase: ... he was curiously unattractive. It was as if he had become a bad photograph of himself.

齣於對Magpie Murders的喜愛讀完瞭這本，結果遠不如前者啊。為瞭消減本格案件置身當代倫敦的違和感，同樣是在敘述手法上玩花樣，喜鵲是用“作中作”，這係列看來是打算一路走“元小說”風。案件本身中規中矩，red herring是常規套路，凶手時間綫那塊明顯玩脫瞭，最後認凶的大場麵也不夠份量。唯一的亮點大概是散落書中的所有真實人物，斯皮爾伯格和丁丁曆險記那段怎麼看怎麼像發自肺腑的吐槽。

因為上一本Magpie Murders，作者今年的新書剛一齣來就迫不及待想看瞭。和上一部作品一樣的是，Horowitz 的crime fiction 給人耳目一新的感覺，總會留下很“機智”的印象。挺喜歡找到很有個人特色的作者。

1. 強烈的元小說特點讓這本書在構思上顯得比傳統偵探小說更為“現代”；2.（作為作者和敘述者的）Anthony與前警官Hawthorne的組閤頗有嚮華生與福爾摩斯緻敬的意思；3.懸念、紅鯡魚和反轉的設置巧妙，我腦子笨硬是沒猜齣凶手；4.以及最後一章怎麼寫得那麼可愛！
