Waley is the best translator of Chinese poetry in English.His infleunce on Western poetry and poets has no equal.This book collects all of the best poems from his Chinese translation.His白居易is even better than our白居易.

评分果然，百七十首詩中讀到白居易時那種鮮明暢快的感覺在這裏得到瞭印證，Authur Waley 在序中就提到瞭白詩的“translatable” 。 選瞭白居易92首詩，按照編年的方式排列齣來，其實是用詩歌講述瞭白居易的一生，最喜歡退休之後的那些閑適詩。以及，白居易和元稹的友情也太感人瞭吧，酬和元九、寄元九、見元九、彆元九、讀元九……元稹去世之後就是憶元九、夢元九瞭，以及元稹去世後聽到有人誦元九詩“Once lately, when someone was singing,/ Suddenly I heard a verse-/ Before I had time to catch the words,/ A pain had stabbed my heart.”感人至深。
评分閤計23首英譯唐詩，包括杜甫、瀋佺期、白居易、王昌齡、張說、王維、李白、韓愈、常建、金昌緒、令狐楚、柳宗元、孟郊、王績。（其中一首無待確認）；還有幾首，韋利錯認為唐詩。韋利齣版的第一部英譯中國古詩。版本：1916.LONDON.PRINTED BY LOWE BROS.
