《The Old Man and the Sea老人與海(英文插圖原版)》講述瞭一個發生在二十世紀中葉古巴的故事。主人公是一位聖地亞哥的老漁夫。這位風燭殘年的漁夫一連八十四天都沒有釣到一條魚,幾乎都快餓死瞭;但他仍然不肯認輸,而充滿著奮鬥的精神,終於在第八十五天釣到一條大馬林魚。大魚拖著船往大海走,但老人依然死拉著不放,即使沒有水,沒有食物,沒有武器,沒有幫手,而且左手又抽筋,他也絲毫不灰心。經過兩天兩夜之後,他終於殺死大魚,把它拴在船邊。但許多鯊魚立刻前來搶奪他的戰利品;他一一地殺死它們,到最後隻剩下一支摺斷的舵柄作為武器。結果,大魚仍難逃被吃光的命運,最終,老人精疲力竭地拖迴一副魚骨。他迴到傢躺在床上,隻好從夢中去尋迴那往日美好的歲月,以忘卻殘酷的現實。

著者簡介

厄尼斯特·米勒爾·海明威(Ernest Miller Hemingway,1899年7月21日—1961年7月2日),美國作傢和記者,被認為是20世紀著名的小說傢之一。海明威一嚮以文壇硬漢著稱,他是美利堅民族的精神豐碑。海明威的作品標誌著他獨特創作風格的形成,在美國文學史乃至世界文學史上都占有重要地位。《老人與海》是海明威著名的作品之一,它奠定瞭海明威在世界文學中的突齣地位。
