Methods of Discovery is organized around strategies for deepening arguments in order to find the best ways to study social phenomena. 著者简介

Andrew Abbott is Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago. He is the author, most recently, of Chaos of Disciplines and Time Matters: On Theory and Method, both from the University of Chicago Press. The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Professor Abbott has written and lectured widely on occupations and professions, social science methods, social theory, and the history of the Chicago School of Sociology.

写给本科生的小书（印刷有点歪。首先明确三种解释过程（语义转换系统性排列实用性）中各自的抽象/实际层面，并把这3x2分类用实学课案例填满。C2&6，九种基本争论（2方法4本体2问题1知识/政治）。C3&4讲提问方法，小标题抄下来。大佬很清楚学生在想啥，连接句雅俗共赏，正经案例都是重点文献。如果能在大二下读它，大三上读digital paper；先把各种方法的预设搞清楚、解释过程弄明白，再去写篇像样的论文。看大佬主页说中译进行中，那就期待它出现在本科必读中吧！

读者的福气。社科各门各派的争论娓娓道来。认知论上下的功夫很大，启发式方法对社科科研者会有很大启发，而论述门派别见时用的例子也是不错的拓宽知识的途径。缺点是重复比较多，偏功用主义，没有注意莫里斯语言三大类应用到社科科研中的动态性质（而略带讽刺的是作者其实在narrative heuristics其中提到过静态转动的重要性），举例相对比较老，没有涉及前沿社科研究。

读了一半，剩下不知何时待补（其实阅读体验还不错
