评分費正清在此書中提綱挈領地總結瞭兩捲本劍橋中國史。此增訂本加入瞭goldman對江鬍的分析
评分費正清寫瞭一句概括中國曆史最深刻的話：Never have so few ruled for so long over so many. 整本書對古代史的敘述比較簡單粗略，最精彩的是清末明初的章節，49年以後的敘述更多，缺少精彩的分析。Goldmann添加的兩章長篇大段敘述，比較囉嗦，沒有什麼特彆齣彩的內容，像是高鶚在續《紅樓夢》。
评分思路新穎 可供參考 但對曆史簡略瞭太多 因此基本可以看作費正清晚年對一生中國史研究的臨終呢喃
