Henry Valentine Miller (December 26, 1891 – June 7, 1980), was an American writer and painter. He was known for breaking with existing literary forms and developing a new sort of "novel" that is a mixture of novel, autobiography, social criticism, philosophical reflection, surrealist free association, and mysticism, one that is distinctly always about and expressive of the real-life Henry Miller and yet is also fictional.

As Miller says in the book:"Everybody says sex is obscene. The only true obscenity is war."Civilization is like a sanctimonious little hypocrite with spick-and-span appearance and dirty heart. So he used the foulest language to express his grievances and sought to reestablish the freedom to live without the conventional restraints of civilization.

有三四次吧，处于要扯头发砸东西的狂躁状态。一是各种奇怪词汇出现在十足违和的语境里，前前后后翻三四次有时仍然不知所云。二是日常的琐碎糜烂无趣与疯人呓语般突发的人性光辉存在着两种截然不同的语言风格思想状态。三是我受够了爱讲道理空讲道理还讲得别人听不懂的写作方式。再也不想看亨利米勒了！

本书编辑比较有趣，在故事结尾后的信息非常实用，包含了书影景的推荐。若我先看HM再看冯唐也一定能感受到冯唐受HM影响之深。特别是大段激情澎湃的描写和对妇女喷薄的热爱，让我很想再找个时间读《南回归线》，此书读了一个半月，可能是18年唯一的一本英文原著了。
