著者簡介

Author Biography

John Berger was born in November 1926 in London. He served in the British Army from 1944 to 1946; he then enrolled in the Chelsea School of Art and the Central School of Art in London. In 1952 Berger began writing for the New Statesman, and quickly became an influential Marxist art critic. He has published a number of art books including the famous Ways of Seeing, which was turned into a television series by the BBC. His novel G. won the 1972 Booker Prize and was also awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in the same year. John Berger moved to France a number of years ago and still lives there.

她迴去瞭！她做到瞭！作者筆觸十分細膩，特彆是在描寫山莊周遭環境和女主內心戲的時候（描寫女主幻想十分舒適但非其所想的婚姻生活時，以及描寫女主如何卑微地愛著大衛時），可以將讀者完全代入其中。由於看的是（企鵝）原版，理解可能不是十分透徹，我似乎沒看齣女主在山莊裏遇見的人對她産生瞭多大的影響（遺産母女、盲人太太）。我隻看齣Neville（直男癌）讓女主更加真切地認識瞭自己，堅定瞭其“做自己”的決心。我不禁為這個小說想瞭一個後續。女主迴到英國，再次見到大衛，但是發現大衛有瞭另一個情婦……

Too many summaries, too few scenes so far,I am getting impatient.Alas, I take it all back,I am more and more drawn into it as I read on. The style is very much like that of Henry James',one of my favourite stylists.Even the sporadic use of french.

消遣讀，沒有特彆喜惡。筆法不尋常，是那種寫景都能往抽象裏去的調式。寫人的時候倒往往很精彩，足見wording上下的功夫。翻譯絕對會很纍。前文過於平淡，倒是襯托瞭一下結尾的迷你高潮。但是高潮的鋪墊又不充分，整個Mr N 的存在違和感強烈。

最後三分之一還可以。布剋奬也是隨便發發。
