评分与《女勇士》不同,这部华裔美国人的回忆录以中国的男性为主角。每一章节前都有对中国传统神话故事或经典故事的改写。能在美国成为畅销书的原因是可想而知的。
评分和《女勇士》相比,同样充满着汤亭亭独特风格的奇思和跳跃,但《中国佬》的男性视角涉及了很多公众历史事件——华人劳工在夏威夷种甘蔗地、修铁路,反共狂潮和参加越南战争的故事,读来很有感触,感觉像是在看一部血泪华人移民史,个人更喜欢这一本。
评分觉得作者有点将中国文学搬过去套上美国的背景。里面有一张很像是仿写鲁迅的“吃人”。当然也夹杂了一点个人经验。可惜读的不是原文,不知道作者功底如何。不过还是提供了一些宝贵的社会背景知识。
